I was taking stock of my ongoing calendar of court cases that I follow and write about at work today. The (alleged) nose-biting food company exec had a court appearance today and his trial won’t start until 2023. I had a big one yesterday about a University of Arkansas MFA student who was busted on some truly heinous allegations. And today we saw yet another Arkansas resident busted related to the January 6 insurrection.
I’ve only got one case left, highlighted in neon green on the calendar I keep by my desk at work: the Josh Duggar defense response brief filing, due on December 27. In their last request for an extension, Gelfand stated that he didn’t anticipate asking for more time, so I’m assuming that we will actually get that filing on time.
I’m not sure what to expect. The government was very clear about why it felt that Duggar’s appeal is completely without merit. It outlined, in convincing and painstaking detail, exactly why the defense’s reasons for asking for an appeal didn’t hold water. So…I’m not exactly sure what the defense is supposed to do at this point. If it’s just hammering away at the same three points that they have tried to make all along, I don’t see how that will succeed. But I also don’t know what new angle they could take, so I’m curious to get a look at this upcoming brief.
