I bought three tickets, and actually hit two numbers on one of them, which won me exactly zero dollars. We also had a pool at the station and a bunch of us threw in ten bucks apiece and our total return on all those tickets was six dollars.
The winner still hasn’t come forward, which is curious. Do they not know? Is there a lost ticket somewhere? Or is the savvy new billionaire just biding his or her time? I don’t know about you, but I’d be beating down the lottery office’s door the morning after winning that jackpot.
It has been a rough 7-8 days. Last week I got sick. It started at the end of the week, so I took an at-home test, thinking I was almost sure that I had COVID. It came back negative on Thursday morning. On Friday I felt worse, despite another negative test at home. I called in sick to work—which I hate to do; it was my first time needing to since starting there—and went and got an actual test done at urgent care. Negative yet again.
It laid me out pretty well all weekend. I still didn’t feel great Monday…or for most of the past week. Most of the newsroom was deeply occupied with training on new video software all week, which meant that there were hours upon hours of instructional lectures happening essentially right next to me that I was not a part of. In other words, it was a perfect week to pop in my air pods and listen to music while I worked.
I suck at being sick. I hate everything about it and I don’t handle it well. So I battled through by bringing tea and honey and setting up a little station right on my desk. I hate that I’m “that guy.” I feel like a complete wuss when I’m under the weather. But I got through it.
I’m actually getting back to feeling human today. But I just thought I’d chime in with what has to be about as positive a COVID-scare experience as one can have. As I said, I was sure I caught it. Multiple co-workers have come down with it recently, and despite being vaxxed and boosted, it just seemed like it might be my time.
Getting a real test at urgent care could not have been easier. I have never been to this location, but it’s right by my house and I was able to create an account online and reserve an appointment in minutes. There was no wait, the test was not a big deal at all, and everyone there literally could not have been kinder. So…if anyone is reading this and you find yourself in a similar spot, I highly suggest doing what I did and finding a spot that will test you, most likely for free, for your own peace of mind.
