I don’t talk about my family a lot on here, but…I’m divorced and I have two teenage children. They are currently living in Arkansas, but they’re here in Vegas visiting for the first time. Making the move here was a really tough decision because of this, but ultimately it was the right thing to do for multiple reasons. The kids understand this too.
My son is 16 and just wants to game with his friends and be left alone. I understand this completely, so I splurged and got a new desktop computer set up out here before he arrived. He doesn’t do very well with crowds and unfamiliar situations, so Las Vegas isn’t the ideal place for him, but he has absolutely settled in with me here in Henderson. I keep him stocked up with snacks and drinks and he gets to stay up late and sleep in and he’s very content.
My daughter is 13 and a force of nature and has the energy of a hummingbird on meth. She and I hit the Strip early and checked out the M&Ms store, the Hershey’s store, and a pop-up Stranger Things store/experience that she absolutely adored. She is obsessed with the show, so that was a perfect outing for her.
Yesterday we braved the hottest day of the year…and the Caesars Palace Forum shops, an opulent multi-level shopping experience. She was in slack-jawed awe at some of the sights. I managed to escape with just a minimal amount of damage done to my wallet after stops at Lush and Sephora.
Did I overspend a little because I feel guilty about moving away? 100%. And I don’t even apologize for it. Same with the computer. My time with them is limited now, and I want them to enjoy it.
Tonight, we have tickets to Tournament of Kings, a medieval-themed dinner and show with jousting and knights and pyrotechnics and who knows what else. And yesterday, I decided to go ahead and book a room for tonight at the Luxor hotel next door, where we are staying in a literal pyramid. We’ll probably hit the pool, catch the show tonight, grab breakfast at the hotel in the morning, and then start the process of my return to the real world tomorrow. Back to work on the 5th.
They have both enjoyed their time here in their own, respective ways. I even think he’ll enjoy being where the action is for one night. I know she will. They head home on Sunday, and my hope is that they return to Arkansas with fond memories of their first trip out to see me in my new environment.
I hope all of you are having a wonderful time around the holiday as well. I’ll be back with a more substantial post soon.
Sounds like a wonderful time!
