(Above: photographers poised, waiting for a shot of the Duggars arriving at court)
It has become clear that my coverage of the Duggar family will extend well beyond Josh’s conviction and into the new year. Here is a tentative calendar of events:
December 14: Arkansas State Senate special election race, primary election day. Jim Bob Duggar is running, and there’s a very good chance that he will become the Republican nominee for the seat. I’ll be in the KNWA newsroom working a shift on the desk until 10:30 p.m. that night. I have no idea if we’ll have results by then, but if we don’t, I’ll be back the next day.
January 10: Jana Duggar’s scheduled court date for misdemeanor child endangerment charges. This could always get pushed back, but I’ve seen no filing requesting that yet.
February 8, 2022: Arkansas State Senate general election day.
March-April, 2022: Josh Duggar’s expected timeframe to receive sentencing for his child pornography conviction.
I’m told that his inevitable appeal could take up to a year or more to get rolling, and that the venue for a federal appeal like this is most likely St. Louis, Missouri. Unfortunately, this is well out of KNWA’s local coverage area. HOWEVER, given the incredible traffic that our stories received, if and when the time comes, I’m going to pitch the idea of going there to cover any courtroom action.
It’s probably a longshot. And a long time from now, so not something that we need to worry about just yet. But if it happens, I feel like I should be there.
It makes me sick to hear that Jim Bob has a very good chance at winning the primary. How on earth can people reconcile voting for him when there are other candidates who did not support and enable a pedophile for decades. Ugh.
Excellent post again
