The majority of my work week was dominated by reporting on some wild stories involving a Northwest Arkansas psychiatrist. I won’t give the full recap here, but he is both being investigated for billing fraud and being sued by patients over some outlandish allegations. And it’s plural, indicating that he has—allegedly—done this to more than one person. The short version is that people checked into his facility willingly and they say that he trapped them there and threatened to keep them even longer via court orders if they complained or tried to leave. The details are horrifying. And I’m left with two lingering questions after everything I have read and written so far.
1. How did he think he was going to get away with this?
2. Why haven’t any criminal charges been filed?
I’m going to work on getting some answers to that second question this week. There are multiple stories up on the station’s website if you want to know more about the notorious Dr. Hyatt.
On a completely different note, let’s move on to a review of a TV show that I have never seen.
What?
Yeah. We’re doing this. Sort-of.
